Angola's Dos Santos sacks deputy governors of Central Bank

Angola’s President José Eduardo dos Santos has continued with his shake up of the country’s central bank dismissing two deputy governors of the bank and replacing them immediately.

According to a statement delivered by the presidency, the two deputy governors, Gualberto Manuel Amaro Lima Campos and Cristina Florencia Dias Van-Dúnem, had lost their jobs along with three directors of the bank’s board who had also been sent packing.

The changes came at a time that the country has been hammered by the fall in oil prices and the government recently began negotiations with the International Monetary Fund on a three year credit facility.

In March, Dos Santos also appointed little known Valter Filipe da Silva as the governor after the country’s former central bank governor resigned.

Da Silva recently stated that Angola needs to embark on banking sector reforms to curb economic stagnation.
